Jon Stewart’s Priceless Response To Fox News On Ferguson
Jon Stewart is back from vacation, and he’s not wasting any time going after one of his favorite targets: Fox News.
Watch his the full brilliant 10 minute monologue on racism and Ferguson here.
I hate ranting on the internet, but fuck it for now..
I am a victim of racial abuse, have been countless times in my short 25-26 years of life, and sadly will be absolutely flabbergasted when I inevitably/unfortunately encounter it again due to it’s ubiquitous nature. Maliciously nitpicking someone based on the colour of their skin, or the shape of their eyes, or anything generally associated with non-caucasian physical attributes is easily the lowest and scummiest form of human existence and expression. The prevalence of racism leaves me highly anxious and terrified; to the point of entirely avoiding “patriotic” public holidays/celebrations by boxing myself in my bedroom until the day is compeltely over, and safe to enter the world again as the half Filipino+half Serbian and 100% Australian born person that I am…one of the saddest parts is that I love saying, “I am Australian” but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to truly claim it like the “patriots” do. My accent isn’t occa, my skin is brown, I have a Serbian surname, I was born in Waratah N.S.W but I’m frequently questioned “where are you from?” rather than being assumed as an “Australian” in this apparent and self-proclaimed multicultural country…I don’t know how I could be any more multicultural ffs?
**also, I’m not trying to compare myself to the obvious severity of the Ferguson shooting and it’s victims, if anything I would like to send my condolences to Michael Brown’s family, his close friends and everyone affected by the recent discriminatory acts.
I’m just venting and trying to make a point of the total unjust extensiveness of racism throughout the world and my home country. It is real. It’s terrifying, damaging, futile, infantile, fatal, morally/ethically unsound and worst of all it’s obviously applicable everywhere, E V E R Y W H E R E…fuck.
Finally, I don’t want to end this on a totally dystopian front because I’m always trying to be somewhat of an optimist and will try to find glimmers of hope in humanity (not in a god, nor any gods) which I have :) … the people who I call my mates are what shine bright to me, who all come from various backgrounds, each posses their own talents and thoughts, are all just as beautiful as each other, and most importantly, have allowed and accepted me as the person that I am with nil prejudices and for that I will love and appreciate them till the very end.
